Need some help in building a Simson engine

  • Hi all!

When i was at ebay and searching after Sachs 80ccm i saw this forum for Simson mopeds and engines.

Here in Sweden wo don't have Simson at all so i have spended some hours reading and (trying) to learn more about them.

Most of all i'm looking for a complete engine ++15hp but i can also buy a project engine and cylinderkit to build one by myself.

What engine is the best to use with 85-90ccm? 4 or 5 gears?

I saw some 90ccm cylinderkits on ebay, are they bolt on to any Simson engine?

The 90ccm 6 channel kit, do they produce +20hp with a big carberetor and a handbuild exhaust?

    Reed or no reed?

    Thanks and regards from Sweden,

    Ulf Ericson

    Hey Ulf.

In my mind, it isn't the best way to look for engines at ebay. There are some german tuners, where you can buy really powerful engines. E.g. http://%22http//langtuning.de/%22 ; http://%22http//zt-tuning.de/%22 or http://%22http//www.racepowertuning.de/%22. Mostly there are the appropriate exhausts on the same sites.
How many money would you spend for such an engine ? I would think about the LT85 by Langtuning or the S85 stage 2, 3 oder even stage 4 engines produced by zt-tuning.
Most engines you have do drive with 5 gears. If you doesn't do it, you won't have the full power.

    Greetings, Christian

  • Re: Need some help in building a Simson engine

    1. Try to avoid kits from ebay.
    2. More ports don't mean more power. The whole engine has to fit together well.

Here are some shops where you can get very good engines with 85cm³:

    http://%22http//www.zt-tuning.de%22
    http://%22http//www.rzt.de%22
    http://%22http//www.langandreas.de%22
    http://%22http//www.langtuning.de%22
    http://%22http//www.noz-racing.de%22

Reed engines most time have a bit more power than normal ones. That's not only because of the reed intake itself, it's also because you can choose a nice 5 port flushing instead of 4 port flushing then.

    Hello Ulf,

the question is: want you built any engine or want you buy a finished project? There are lots of possibilities to get any engine between 15-20HP, with or without reedvalve. For sure it`s more easy to have this power and better to ride with any reed-valve-cylinder, f.e. with our SVI90. There you can have around 18HP for about 900,- euro (complete engine with all neccessarry parts, exhaust, carburetor set). To have this power without reed valve you need to expect about 100,- euro less, f.e. RS904R with nearly the same power.
If you are able to make some things himself you can spend some money, f.e. there are also own exhaust systems possible or other carburetors which you maybe have already.

    Thanks for your answer!

I have plenty of carburetors 19-30mm flatside and also exhaust.
Also many 5-6 speed Sachs 50s engines.

Was just getting curios on this Simson engine that we havent even heard og here.

How much on these Simson is the same as on Sachs?

Could you please reply with some directlinks to those engines since i don't understand german?

    Hello Ulf,

think there's no identical part between Sachs and Simson, because Simson was produced in the former GDR and Sachs in West-Germany. Maybe you can find some identical parts on Hercules, Sachs and Zündapp as well. But all I know about these bikes is great lack of knowledge. :D

Your Hercules looks really cool. Just keep it up.

    Hello!

As the other guy already told, there are no similars between your bike and Simson. Also to other bikes from west germany there are no parts which are same- all this companies had big fights together on the market in the 70th and 80th. But we already sold a lot of our (Simson) exhaust systems to adapt them on Herkules or Sachs, there are only some small details to change in the angle of the cylinder and the mounting. So I expect you can modify one of your exhausts to mount them on the Simson. Also one of your carburetors you will be probably able to use.

Hm, but why does Herkules use parts from Sachs (like wheels and engine, see picture above).

Just to give you a direct link to an engine you seem to look for:

    https://www.simsonforum.net/%22http://lang…dex.php?a=33%22

    or this one without reeds:

    http://www.reichtuning.de/_funmotoren/f ... pezial.php

a 5 gear transmission would fit well

    Thanks alot for the links!

But..... on all the webstores where they sell complete engines they want me to send one back to them, but i don't have one!

Ok... lets see, if i want a complete 5 speed block without cylinder etc. but with a nice ignition like PVL, where do i find them without sending an engine back......

And.... thank you all for helping me!

PS: In Sweden it's very popular with old tuned mopeds now, our local moped club has over 100 members now.

  • Re: Need some help in building a Simson engine

Im sure, you can buy one engine without sending another in before.
Just send an email to the tuner of your choice and ill bet you get it for a little more money.

    Hello!

    The problem is the following:
new engines are not possible to buy. There are some on the market, but the quality is very bad, not good to use for performance engines. On other side there are thousends of used original engines in the market, this are to buy used for less than 100,- euro. Thats why all tuners prefer to get sent any old engine to rebuilt this. If you don`t have or if you are not able to buy for sure we can search one of them for this amount of money.

  • Re: Need some help in building a Simson engine

the engine most tuningparts are made for ist the m541 or m531. you can find these engines in the S51, SR50, and KR51/2. normally these engines are built with 3- ore 4-gear but its possible to change it into a 5-gear.
the "normal" german simson-tuner has one, two or more of these gearblocks in his garage. on ebay you can buy lot of them. i can imagin, it`s not easy for you to get such a block but when you send your application to a professional tuner they may help you.

but there is one thing, i can`t understand. for sachs-machines you can get very good tuning-parts. and when you can`t find the right parts, cylinders and exhaust systems can be adapt by hercules and zuendapp. we also drive a zuendapp minitherm from athena on our simsonblock. why it must be simson parts for you?

Mal sehen, was Google Translate kann mit meinem ganzen deutschen obefentliga tun.
Warum Samson?

It's just fantastic what we can do with internet today!
